With the US East Coast currently hunkered down for Hurricane Sandy and a large portion of people finding themselves without power, some Guild Wars 2 players questioned whether or not ArenaNet might extend Shadow of the Mad King by a day or two. The answer to this question is no, unfortunately, but in the answer provided, we did find out new information about November’s big update, which has been eluded to more than once by GW2 staff members:

We heard your questions about extending the Halloween event for those of you affected by Sandy. Unfortunately we cannot do that, but the reason why we can’t is exciting: We are preparing for our big November update, which will start on November 15, and there will be content that will be in the game prior to that, leading up to the event.

Nice– now we know both a patch date and a hint of a cool precursor event leading to the update. November 16th is coming up fairly quickly.

In the meantime, if you’re in the area affected by the storms, stay safe, folks!

A new developer blog has been posted detailing some of the changes to WvW by Mike Ferguson. Along with some updates to squads and seige work, there is a WvW scoreboard from last BWE1. How did your server fare?

On Squads:

The commander system is another area where we’ve spent some significant time. We’ve made it easier to join squads, as you can now right-click on someone’s name in chat and choose to join their squad. And squad chat now works both ways, allowing members to talk to their commander. In another improvement, commanders can now check the followers tab in their contacts panel to see a list of people who are in their squad.
