After the MMORPG.com panel on Saturday, Sardu from Guildwars2hub.com got a chance to talk to Jon Peters on traits and builds. Make sure you read the full article for all the details. Here’s a little snippet:

Sardu: Between the press closed beta (CBT2) and the more recent closed beta event (CBT3) I noted there were a lot of changes to traits. The overall system mechanics remained largely the same, but could you talk a bit about some of the specific changes to the traits themselves?

Jon Peters: In the first of those events we had enough placeholder traits to show the process of how you would click on certain slots and there would be choices. That’s basically what those were for. So for the second one (CBT3) it was more like this is how many choices you’re going to have and most of these are real, so all of those were actually built in that three week span in between tests.

Check the latest dev blog from Arenanet as Jordan Massey tells us about the role of squads in world vs. World combat.

Joining a squad is just as easy as sending a whisper or a party invite. Simply select a teammate and right-click their portrait. If they’re in a squad, you’ll see an option to join their squad. Click that and you’re in! The commander doesn’t have to approve your request—you can join and leave freely. It doesn’t matter whether you click on a commander or a squad member. You’ll join the squad as the person you clicked on, so you don’t have to worry about chasing down a commander in order to join a squad. In the party menu on the quick-launch bar, there’s a small squad panel. From there, you can leave the squad you’re in if you want to join a different one, or if you’re just done for the day.

The guys at The Yogscast took the time to give us an in depth overview of racial elite skills. Not all of the races have been available for any of the closed beta events. The two unique races, Sylvari and Asura have been left out thus far. Giving us something to still look forward to seeing. Char, Human, and Norn however have several options to choose from.

I’m surprised the non-disclosure agreement was still in effect for this last weekend event. Let alone the threats of possible repercussions to anyone breaking NDA. A large portion of the game is on youtube already. Although I’d expect that future beta events will be more specific focus testing. Opposed to what seemed to be open game play with few restrictions in the media events. Now that we will not rely on the media sites for content release, expect big things to come from us here at GW2Junkies!

Crafting so far in Guild Wars 2 seems to be a fairly basic system. You create the base component items, then place them in the final craft window and if your items can make something it lets you know. To me It feels like it’s unneeded clicking, the bane of crafters. Keep in mind that this is still beta and hopefully the system will get some major work before launch. If anything I’d suggest removing the two weapon component clicks into one item. Instead of making a dagger hilt and blade, how about just a stat-less dagger. Then take your dagger and the inscription to make the actual magic Dagger of Noob Slaying.

Guildwars2 Hub from Ten Ton Hammer brings us a fantastic preview of their experience from the recent beta weekend. Check out their article as they go over weapon skills, skill points and everything else with the basics of Guild Wars 2. It’s a great read for those just learning about the game.

A huge plus to the skill system in my book is that players have a certain amount of direct control over how quickly they earn skill points. You naturally gain one per level, but given that some skills might cost seven points (or even 25 for some elites) you’ll want to open your map in each new area you explore and find where the skill challenges are located. The map legend will tell you how many are in a given area, and how many you’ve already completed.

Today, TenTon Hammer released their latest beta article, and this time they are talking about Dynamic Events.

Most of the times I entered the swamp the on-screen status for the area stated, “The swamp lies dormant.” When you see that kind of thing you’ll know that a much larger event is likely to happen in the area, so it’s a good idea to start poking around and completing any smaller nearby events.

For Godslost swamp, the meta event is called Secrets in the Swamp. In the image to the right you can see how the area status changed to indicate that a major event was about to occur, followed by another status change once the massive Shadow Behemoth erupted out of the swamp.

You should really follow up with the article and discover the author’s first hand account of the epic adventure to be found in the Godslost Swamp.
